Easy Peking-Style Duck Wraps (Budget-Friendly!)

This simplified recipe uses duck legs instead of a whole duck to make things easier and more affordable, while still capturing that crispy-skin, rich-flavor magic.

Ingredients (Serves 2-3):

  • 2 duck legs (easier to cook than a whole duck!)

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder (optional but recommended!)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (for extra crispy skin)

  • 6 small flour tortillas or thin pancakes

  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced into thin strips0

  • 2 scallions, sliced thin

Total Estimated Cost: Around $10 for a restaurant-style meal!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pat the duck legs dry with a paper towel (moisture is the enemy of crispy skin!).

  2. Mix soy sauce, honey, five-spice powder, and salt in a small bowl. Rub the mixture all over the duck legs.

  3. Sprinkle baking powder over the skin—this helps the skin crisp up beautifully.

  4. Place duck legs on a wire rack over a baking sheet (this allows the fat to drip off while cooking).

  5. Roast for 60-70 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the skin is crispy and golden brown. If you want extra crispiness, broil for the last 3-5 minutes, but watch carefully to avoid burning.

  6. Let the duck rest for 5 minutes, then shred the meat with forks.

  7. Warm up the tortillas or pancakes, spread hoisin sauce on each, and add shredded duck, cucumber, and scallions.

  8. Wrap, roll, and enjoy!
